HERE IS WHERE WE MEET

(557 x 25mm button badges worn by artist , to be given out over course of a private view OCTOBER 2015)

557* opportunities to take someone's life.

557* opportunities to live your own.

*the number of bodies interred in the St Pancras Crypt.

Throughout the private view for the Index exhibition held at St Pancras Crypt gallery I asked visitors to take a badge from me to keep and wear. On each badge was a person's first name and age at which they died. There were 557 in total and each one represented a body interred in the crypt where the exhibition took place.

Here Is Where We Meet is an attempt to take the archival record of the remains of 557 dead bodies and transform it into a tangible and relational work.

The piece looks at the lived-body and how a person can begin to explore their own identity and existence within a group through another person. In being presented with a name and an age each participant is implored to fill a badge with significance and physicality drawn from their own experience.

Here Is Where We Meet opens up a dialogue on death and our relations to others.
